Blueberry Hill in Wholefoods!

Hello,

Hope you are all well. It has been a while since our last post- time flies when you are having fun! We have had an eventful few weeks but are now very pleased to say that we have moved into a new, shiny and very spacious kitchen in Battersea! We have finally been able to move the many many boxes from behind Rachel’s sofa and can keep all of our cake tins in one place. Heaven (if you like that sort of thing).

So now we have a nice big kitchen, all we need is a nice new contract. Oh, hang on…..

Wholefoods Market got in touch a few weeks back- their new flagship store in Piccadilly opens in May and they are looking for new suppliers. We were a little nervous about our meeting in their HQ above the huge store on High St Ken but they couldn’t have been nicer, and the samples we took them seemed to go down well! While we wait to see how many cakes they will be ordering for May, they put in an order for Easter and Jubilee products for their other stores.

Our Easter Fruit Cake

As Wholefoods do not use artificial flavourings or additives, we suddenly had to re look at every ingredient going into our products and trying to figure out what the hell humectant was or if monoglycerides of fatty acids was natural (or indeed normal). Even dried fruit and ground spices had us a bit stumped- who knew ground ginger may not be just ground ginger ? It does make you start thinking about what we are eating without even thinking about it! So after getting to know the customer service team for various food companies quite well and learning what they put in natural blue food colouring to make it blue (algae) we eventually got there.

Crown Biscuits in a Jar

We delivered to the depot last night and the products are due into store today. Scary but very exciting! So if you happen to be passing any WF store on your travels, pop in and have a look.

CAKE & PAMPERING DAY

Posted on: February 16th, 2012 by admin

Hello,

Hope this finds you well. This week we thought we’d give you a little more information about our upcoming afternoon tea event being held on Sunday March 18th.

We are really excited about it as it is the first event we are holding at The Cavendish Arms. Many of you will know this place as the home of the South Lambeth Market that runs monthly (next one 10th March) and if you have ever been inside will have seen that it is a really special place. They hire it out for all sorts of events, from comedy nights to burlesque classes, and there is even a pub organist who you can book! We will be providing a full afternoon tea here- finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, a selection of mini cakes, tea, coffee and a glass of fizz, all served on our lovely vintage crockery.

Alongside the main pub area, they have a backroom which is used for dance classes, comedy and music and this is where the pampering side of our event will take place. We have teamed up with Anna at Beloved Beauty and  Tekla from the Art of Relaxation to provide manicures, pedicures and reflexology sessions while you enjoy your afternoon tea. What more could you want I hear you say? Well, it just so happens to be Mothers Day that Sunday so you can bring your mum along and treat her to a pampering session too! Amazing.

The event is from 3-6pm on the Sunday. Tickets are £35 each and are available to buy from us- just drop us an email or give us a call. And feel free to spread the word! Tickets are limited so if you would like some please get in touch soon.

If you can’t make this one, fear not as we are putting together all sorts of lovely packages for your enjoyment. We have dance teachers, knitting teachers, patchwork lessons, vintage hair and make up sessions and cocktail masterclasses all ready to go! And if you are looking to hold your own party we will bring all these packages to your home or venue of choice- perfect for Hen parties, baby showers and birthdays. Fun Fun Fun.

Look forward to seeing you on March 18th

Love Ella and Rachel x

After a few months of development, lots of paperwork and a few stressful calculations, we are so pleased and excited that our Blueberry Hill Valentines Biscuit range has made it onto the shelves in Harrods!

The range is available in the patisserie section of the Harrods Food Hall until the 14th February, so pop down and have a peak and purchase a gorgeous treat for your loved one.

As it has been such a big week for us, we wanted to share a few photos of, the slightly longer then planned, baking process that was their creation.

BEETROOT SORBET WITH PEAR PURÉE

Posted on: January 27th, 2012 by admin

Hello,

Hope this finds you well.

I just came across a recipe that I had forgotten about. I love it when that happens-but it happens all too often with me as I have a million recipe books, each with tried and tested winners, but no system in place to find them again! One day I will categorise, order and file my recipes. But today is not that day.

Anyway, this one is a corker. BEETROOT sorbet you say? Stop looking so puzzled- it’s delicious. Rachel and I have included it in some of our afternoon teas and it always goes down a treat.  The pear purée is delicious with it too.

Ingredients;

1 kg beetroot, washed and cut into 3cm chunks

135g caster sugar

4 sprigs of thyme, plus extra to garnish

100g liquid glucose (you can find this in bigger supermarkets in the baking section)

Juice of one lemon

For the pear purée;

5 pears

juice of one lemon

100g caster sugar

25g butter

2 dessert apples, cored and sliced really thinly.

1. Place the beetroot, 35g of the sugar and thyme in a pan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and cook for 45-50 mins, topping up the water if needed. Remove the beetroot from the pan and boil the liquid until thick and only about 150 mls remain.

2. Blitz the beetroot and leftover liquid until smooth.

3. Put the remaining 100g sugar into a pan with 300mls water and bring to the boil, boiling for 5 mins. Remove from the heat and stir in the beetroot purée and liquid glucose. Add lemon juice to taste.

4. Pour into a shallow container and freeze for 4 hours. Remove, blitz in a food processor and return to the freezer for another 4 hours, blitz again, then finally freeze until set.

5. Pear purée- Peel and chop the pears, toss in a bowl of lemon juice. Dissolve the sugar in a pan of a low heat, stirring until the crystals have dissolved. Add the pears, add the butter and cook for about three mins. Cool, then blitz the pears in a food processor until smooth.

6. Serve the sorbet in a bowl with the pear purée drizzled over it, a few thin slices of apple and a sprig of thyme balanced on top.
